The angle of repose of powders and granules provides information about their behavior during transport and storage, for example when filling or emptying silos.

Definition of the angle of repose

The angle of repose is defined as the angle at the base of the pouring cone. It is therefore the angle between the generatrix of the resulting cone and the horizontal.

Determining of the angle of repose

The above mentioned cone is formed by the sample running from a glass funnel onto a circular disk with a precisely known diameter. This means that the base diameter of the cone of repose is also known along with the diameter of the disk.

This means that the angle of repose only depends on the height of the cone of repose. Therefore, each measured cone height is clearly assigned an angle of repose.
