according to DIN EN ISO 60

For determining the bulk density of molding compounds made of powders or grains, which can flow through a given funnel.

  • Functions

Scope of delivery:

1 x filling funnel, inner diameter 56 mm with taper to 33 mm, capacity approx. 200 ml, highly polished inside,
1 x base flap, with handle,
1 x stand including base plate, with adjustable holder for the filling funnel,
1 x graduated cylinder, inner diameter 45 ±5 mm, capacity 100 ±0.5 ml, highly polished inside,
3 x tips for a reliably conductive electrical connection between the graduated cylinder and the base plate,
1 x straight-edged rod for wiping.

Design:
Filling funnel, measuring cylinder, stand rod and base flap made of stainless steel 1.4305 or 1.4301, base plate and funnel holder made of anodized aluminium.

The bulk density is determined in order to check both the molding compounds produced and those delivered. Knowledge of this density is essential in order to accurately calculate the volume in processing machines as well as in storage and transport containers. It describes the ratio of mass to volume of the bulk material. As  the volume and therefore also the density are strongly influenced by the type of pouring, the test method has been standardized.

The PTL bulk density tester complies exactly with the relevant standards. A precision scale is also required to determine the mass. PTL bulk density testers have a conductive connection between the filling funnel and the measuring cylinder to ensure potential equalization in the event of electrostatic charges.
A bulk density tester is only suitable for molding compounds that can flow through a specific funnel. This includes powdery, granular and sometimes short-fibered materials.
