The drop drum testing machine essentially consists of the drop drum and the frame. The dimensions of the drop drum comply with the relevant regulations. The frame contains the drive and the electrical control system. The drop drum is equipped with a door for holding the test specimens. On the right-hand side, the drop drum is mounted directly on the stub shaft of a geared motor.
On the left-hand side there is a fixed pin for support. A flanged ball bearing attached to the drop drum rotates around this journal. There is a slip clutch on the shaft end of the geared motor. This allows the drop drum to be turned by hand when the motor is at a standstill. The drop drum can also be stopped easily when the motor is running.
The drop drum test is a special form of test that is used to check the resistance of products, especially packaging, to mechanical shocks and vibrations. In this test, the object to be tested is placed in a drum, which then rotates and repeatedly bounces it against the walls of the drum. This process simulates the conditions to which the object could be exposed during transportation and handling.
